Freezing water, Dutch Bros Coffee and people in goofy costumes, if that sounds like fun then be a part of this year’s Penguin Plunge.

Douglas C.A.R.E.S, a private non- profit organization that is dedicated to treating children who have been physically or sexually abused and neglected, is hosting the fourth annual Penguin Plunge and is looking for participants. Volunteers will plunge together into the 40 degree Umpqua River March 15 at River Forks Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the plunge starts at 11 a.m. The cost per individual is $25 and for a team of 5 or more the cost is $100 but the memories and the photos are priceless.

All participants must be 16 years or older. Individuals under 18 must have parental consent on the day of the plunge. C.A.R.E.S asks everyone to please bring photo ID.

The Penguin Plunger’s job will be to raise support for the services provided to children of abuse by acquiring donors for their plunge.

The donor sheet must me turned in at time of registration along with all monies donated. C.A.R.E.S asks everyone to come in their best family-appropriate costumes and to get everyone they can to participate. Awards will be given to both team and individuals who have the best costume and who raised the most money.

Douglas C.A.R.E.S is the only Child Advocacy Center in Douglas County and is the first point of contact for children and families of abuse. They provide forensic interviews, medical examinations (children receive a full well-child checkup that includes psycho-social and motor skills assessments) and counseling for children, families and victim parents. For more information contact Mariah Zimmerman at 541.580.3479 or at mariah@douglascares.org.

If a cold shower or bath doesn’t sound like fun, how about dodging color blast while running with your friends.
