Men’s basketball coach Rich Robles was born and raised in Susanville, California where he played basketball, baseball, and soccer in high school. As a freshman at Chico State University, Robles played basketball as a walk-on athlete.

He began his coaching career at Durham High, near Chico, while finishing his teaching credential. Robles ended up coaching high school teams for 18 years before moving on to the college ranks. Robles’ first collegiate coaching position was as an assistant at Butte Community College for four years before taking the head coaching position at UCC in 2009.

Robles will have five to seven returning players, including three starters, for the 2013 to 2014 season.

“I think a lot of the guys know there’s more to life than basketball. I’m trying to teach more than basketball, giving some life lessons, and winning will be a result of the players buying into the program and giving it their all, so we can be successful,” Robles said.

Robles has been married for 19 years and has three girls ages 12, 14, and 16.
