Dave Stricklin: Women’s Basketball Head Coach

Coach Dave Stricklin was born in 1958. His father was a standout basketball player at Seattle University. After Stricklin’s father accepted a coaching job in Orange County, Stricklin grew up in Southern California. He was a two year starter in high school which earned him a sports scholarship to Brigham Young University. After realizing he was not able to play at the same level as his teammates, Stricklin took a job as assistant coach for the BYU women’s basketball team.

Stricklin then became the assistant coach at Golden West Junior College in Huntington Beach, California. He simultaneously balanced being the head coach at a local high school as well. Stricklin was the assistant coach at Golden West for three years and moved up to be head coach for eight years.

Stricklin then moved to Douglas County to be the assistant coach for UCC. After assisting for a year, Stricklin took over as head coach and has been in this position for the last 18 years.

Under the tutelage of Coach Stricklin, the UCC women’s basketball program has made it to the NWAACC Tournament 16 out of the last 18 years, won two NWAACC championships and 5 third-place finishes. Coach Stricklin has been named NWAACC Coach of the Year twice and has been inducted into the California Coaches Hall of Fame.
